Car AC systems in the UAE work almost all year, and they work hardest when it is hottest. Here are the most common problems and what they usually mean.
Cool when driving, warm in traffic
Often the condenser fan. At speed, air flows through the condenser on its own; at a standstill, the fan has to do the work. A dirty condenser can cause the same symptom.
Warm air all the time
Likely causes are low refrigerant (from a leak), a compressor that isn’t engaging, or an electrical fault such as a pressure switch or relay.
Weak airflow
A blocked cabin filter, a failing blower motor or a blower resistor fault. A cabin filter is a cheap first check.
Bad smell
Moisture and debris around the evaporator. A new cabin filter and system cleaning usually help.
Why not just add gas?
An AC system is sealed. If gas is low, it leaked. Topping up without fixing the leak means paying again soon. Proper car AC repair finds the leak first.
