Gearbox symptoms to watch for
- Delay when moving into Drive or Reverse
- Engine revs rise but the car doesn’t accelerate (slipping)
- Harsh, jerky or late gear changes
- Whining, humming or clunking noises
- Transmission warning light or limp mode
- Fluid leaks under the car
- Manual gearbox: grinding, hard shifting or clutch problems
Automatic, manual and CVT
Many popular cars in the UAE use a CVT rather than a traditional automatic, including several Nissan and Honda models. CVTs behave differently and need the correct fluid; using the wrong one can cause problems. Traditional automatics and manuals have their own wear points such as solenoids, valve bodies, clutches and synchros.
We start with a scan for transmission codes, a fluid check and a road test. Some problems are solved with a fluid service, a sensor or a solenoid; others need the gearbox removed.
Used gearbox as an option
When a gearbox has major internal damage, a matching used gearbox is often the most cost-effective fix. We can source used gearboxes for common models and install them. Matching the exact gearbox code to your car matters, so we check it from your car or registration details.
Gearbox repair — common questions
Does changing gearbox oil fix slipping?
Sometimes, if the fluid is old or low. If there is internal wear, fresh fluid alone won’t fix it. Diagnosis first avoids wasting money.
Do you repair CVT gearboxes?
Yes. We diagnose CVT faults and can offer repair or a used replacement CVT depending on the problem.
Can I keep driving with a slipping gearbox?
It is best not to. Slipping creates heat and wear that can turn a smaller repair into a full replacement.
